About the April fair

During these days people dress in typical Andalusian costumes. The men have the traditional country clothing and the women the typical flamenco dress. During the day, the fair is filled with horsemen and decorated carriages, it is the well-known “horse ride”. Another of the great activities of the festival program are the Bullfights, which take place every afternoon in the Plaza de la Maestranza. After a week of fun, the April Fair ends on Sunday at midnight with an impressive fireworks display. One of the best places to see the fireworks is the Muelle de las Delicias.

Eating and drinking is one of the main pleasures enjoyed by all visitors to the Seville Fair. The booths and the multitude of street stalls offer a wide range of delicacies that allow the public to satisfy their appetite at any time. The most demanded drinks are the “fino”, the “manzanilla” and the “rebujito”, accompanied by a good tortilla, ham, prawns or Andalusian gazpacho.

The beginnings of the April Fair date back to the year 1846, by a decree of Queen Elizabeth. At the beginning, as in most fairs, it began as a three-day cattle fair, where you also had something to drink. Although it began as a commercial event, over the years it has become an expression of the singing and dancing of Seville.
